Certified Financial Planner™
James holds the Certified Financial Planner™ designation, awarded by the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI). It’s the only globally recognised mark of excellence in financial planning and awarded to financial advisers at the pinnacle of the profession, who’ve completed a detailed assessment of their skills and knowledge and demonstrated that they’ve got the right experience, education and ethical approach. Less than 2% of financial advisers in the UK have received this designation.
The Diploma for Financial Advisers is an industry benchmark qualification for financial advisers, which meets the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) qualification requirement for retail investment advisers. Highly relevant and practical, the qualification is tailored to reflect the Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) role.
CeMAP is a Level 3 qualification registered with Ofqual in the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). It meets the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) examination standards for providing advice on mortgage products and is an approved qualification in the mortgage advice apprenticeship standards.
I started my career working for one of the UK’s largest financial advisers, learning what works and perhaps more importantly what doesn’t. After several years, I became disillusioned with working for a big financial adviser, where the emphasis seemed to be on profit over people.
I then went to work for an independent financial adviser where the focus was on delivering a true financial planning service to its clients. Despite the best of intentions, the firm was simply under-resourced and I never felt that I was able to give my clients the service they deserved.
So, I decided to set up Frazer James Financial Advisers. A boutique independent financial adviser, with the resource to provide a first-class financial planning service.
My areas of expertise include pensions, investments, insurance and financial planning.
I’m still enjoying playing sport, primarily rugby, with some cricket and football from time to time, and hope to continue doing so for as long as I can. I also enjoy keeping fit by walking, cycling and going to the gym.
I’m big on books and try to read a couple a month.
Spending time with family is very important to me. We have lots of get-togethers, which always seem to revolve around food!
James' professional highlights
My proudest moment as a Financial Planner was
Setting up Frazer James to deliver independent financial advice in a more helpful and meaningful way; with a true focus on adding value to our clients’ lives.
The three things I love most about my job are
1. Getting to really know and understand people. Understanding how they got to where they are today, creating a vision for where they want to be and then creating a plan to help them get there.
2. Being a trusted independent financial adviser. People entrust us with their financial security & futures. I find that an immense privilege.
3. Simplifying the complex. There is a huge amount of complexity in the world of finance and being able to distil it into ‘need to knows’ for people to understand is great.
The types of people I most enjoy working with are:
People who want to find a balance between living life today and keeping an eye on the future.
All of our clients are friendly, interesting people with a good story and don’t take themselves too seriously.
- All sports
- Bourbon whiskey
- Compound interest
- The M4 at rush hour
- Anything that overpromises & underdelivers
