Certified Financial Planner™
James holds the Certified Financial Planner™ designation, awarded by the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI). It’s the only globally recognised mark of excellence in financial planning and awarded to financial advisers at the pinnacle of the profession, who’ve completed a detailed assessment of their skills and knowledge and demonstrated that they’ve got the right experience, education and ethical approach. Less than 2% of financial advisers in the UK have received this designation.
The Diploma for Financial Advisers is an industry benchmark qualification for financial advisers, which meets the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) qualification requirement for retail investment advisers. Highly relevant and practical, the qualification is tailored to reflect the Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) role.
CeMAP is a Level 3 qualification registered with Ofqual in the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). It meets the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) examination standards for providing advice on mortgage products and is an approved qualification in the mortgage advice apprenticeship standards.
After graduating from the University of Birmingham with a Joint Honours Degree in Science & Engineering, I decided on a change of direction. I completed a financial planning graduate programme with one of the UK’s largest financial advice networks and have worked in the financial services profession ever since.
Prior to setting up Frazer James, I worked in several financial advisory firms, big and small, learning what works and what doesn’t.
My areas of expertise include working with small business owners, self-employed consultants & contractors, as well as professionals such as lawyers, solicitors and accountants.
I’m still enjoying playing sport, primarily rugby, with some cricket and football from time to time, and hope to continue doing so for as long as I can. I also enjoy keeping fit by walking, cycling and going to the gym.
I’m big on books and try to read a couple a month.
Spending time with family is very important to me. We have lots of get-togethers, which always seem to revolve around food!
James' professional highlights
My proudest moment as a Financial Planner was
Setting up Frazer James to deliver financial advice in a more helpful and meaningful way; with a true focus on adding value to our clients’ lives.
The three things I love most about my job are
Getting to really know and understand people. Learning about their history, family, plans for the future and then helping create the life they aspire to.
Being a trusted adviser. People entrust us with their financial security & futures. I find that an immense privilege.
Simplifying the complex. There is huge complexity in the world of finance and being able to distil it into ‘need to knows’ for people to understand is great.
The types of people I most enjoy working with are:
People who want to find a balance between living life today and keeping an eye on the future.
All of our clients are friendly, interesting people with a good story and don’t take themselves too seriously.
- All sports
- Bourbon whiskey
- Compound interest
- Lemon drizzle cake
- The M4 at rush hour
- Anything that overpromises & underdelivers
